Gift Idea

If you stand around long enough someone will get you in a story about holiday gifts. I’m used to it. This was a centerfold (only right side of staple showing) in Hartford Magazine. Middle 1980s. I was fine with it. Because my interest in the trade was already waning and my heart was beating for elements of haute craft. I drew more inspiration from ceramicists and luthiers and folks who made mechanical watches than I ever did from anything in the bicycle industry. For this article, I was paired with a fine hand weaver and also another soul from Connecticut who fabricated custom-made kaleidoscopes.

The ink on this page has faded a bit so the true red color is no longer deep and rich. A lot has faded since the 1980s. Not everything. But a lot.
