Why it’s worth it …
As many here know, I have sponsored a team every year since 1981 – more recently the Richard Sachs Cyclocross Team with your support. This past weekend in Gloucester I ran into a man who was part of all this back in the day. He recently got online and found my site, picture pages, and related social media, and is now in touch again. The following note came to me last night and I am sharing it with you, but removing his name. We’ve had scores, if not hundreds of kids come through our club-team-family over the years and this email crystallizes why it has all been worth it and why it’s a joy to be part of. Thanks to ALL OF YOU for helping me do this.
Richard,
Good seeing you this weekend. I’m sure you’re not aware of the impact CYBC had on my life when I was a youngster, but it was profound. Living in a not so nice part of town and not having a father around, I think I could have taken a different path pretty easily, but CYBC took me under its wing. Thanks to you and Martin Bruhn, Tom Stevens and the CYBC crew showed me one of the greatest healthiest lifestyles there is. I will always be grateful for that. You do a lot more than craft some of the finest machines there are; you make a difference in folks’ lives. I’ve been on and off the bike several times over the years but always seem to come back to the bike. I believe I rode the frame you hooked me up with back in the early 80s for almost 20 yrs+. Now that my son is the same age I was when I started cycling and it brings back many memories. My son really enjoyed the races, loved them actually. He is hooked and chomping at the bit for a CX bike. I know you probably have hundreds or more race photos but I thought I’d send a few of you and yours I took from the weekend . Maybe we will see you in Providence.
Cheers,
