#240
by Mike Richardson

I had the opportunity to meet Richard in the late seventies while working as a team mechanic at the Red Zinger Classic.  I came to know of the artistry and craftsmanship of his frames thru friends from the northeast that I raced with.  Sometime during the eighties I remember stating a few times that if I could have my dream bike that it would have to be a Richard Sachs.  I didn't think at the time that the dream would come true.

I have raced 25+ years as a Cat. 2 and Master, mostly on lugged steel frames.  I have an interest in collecting racing bikes from the seventies.  About a year ago I was privilaged to obtain a bike that Richard built in the mid seventies.  It is serial #2405 and it seems he built it to display at the '77 New York International Cycle show.  It has an unusual subtle fade paint scheme and had hardly been ridden before I purchased it.  I have it equipped with vintage Campagnolo parts and it is the centerpeice of my modest little collection.  I enjoy it on bright Sunday morning rides with my wife on quiet North Carolina back roads and marvel at how it rides.  Some dreams do come true!
