This Guy in Chester
by Don Heckler

When I first started cycling in the late 1980s, I heard of "a guy in Chester that built great frames".  Over the next few years I had a chance to ride several nice bikes, and really wanted a high-end road bike.

It wasn't until 1996 that I had an opportunity to see and ride a Richard Sachs bicycle.  I was extremely impressed with the exceptional handling and comfort!  That, the beauty of the paint, the ornate lugs, the attention to detail, and the fact that this was a 'rolling piece of functional art and craftsmanship' made me realize that I HAD to have one to call my own.

A couple of years passed, and as an early wedding gift I was given a Richard Sachs order form by my lovely and generous wife-to -be.  She had made arrangements for Richard to build me a bike!  To say I was surprised and happy is an understatement!

Within days, I made plans to meet with Richard to go over sizing and other details.  His shop is about 1/2 hour from me.  I couldn't decide on a color but I still had time to think about that.

A few months later, I picked my color (red with creamish panels and yellow lettering) and ordered a Campagnolo Record group from Richard, and before I knew it, the bike was ready!  I must admit that I was nervous on the drive to pick up the bike.  I had wanted this for so long that I was really anxious, too.  Richard put my pedals on for me, and I went for a spin down the street.  What a great feel!  The handling is superb!  This bike responds perfectly to my input, and is very stable and comfortable!  A Great Bike!

Then, about a year ago, I found and bought a used Sachs that was close to my size, so now I have two!

I truly feel that anyone who rides, whether for fun or in competition, and appreciates quality, craftsmanship, and fabulous handling MUST have a Richard Sachs!
